Tips from OXYGEN

Used to read this magazine few years back and just recently started back on it again. I LOVE IT!! There is so much info in here as far as training and eating goes. Here is a little tidbit I picked up in the Feb 2010 edition:

~Conisistaancyto training, nutrition and recovery is what leads to improvements

~If we continue to make excuses instead of making time, our friendships and our fitness will begin to fizzle.

~To be truly engaged, we need to stay focused on the present moment. It is equally important to stay tuned into your workout. Focusing on each and every set and feeling the muscles working and contracting allows you to build what is called the "mind muscle connection."

Healthy Relationship Gym Tips
1. Define expectations-what do you want from the gym and what are you willing to put into it?
2. Schedule Workouts!!!
3. Seek Change-be open to new things, take risks!
4. Stay focused-go in with a plan!
5. Find the good-Results don't happen overnight! Take pride in at least getting to the gym 4 days a week!!!

Hope you guys find this motivating!! I have not been this motivated in a long long time, so I am happy to find my groove again!!

Now off to study!!

Simple Facts

So I have started reading my book for my NASM personal training cert and I am learning some interesting tidbits!

*Personal training started with the guys at the gyms that were "the big buff guys"...the ones that were always working out etc
*Today 33% of adults are OBESE!!! Holy crap!! We need to get off our butts (but not until you are done with my blog!!) and get out there and PlAy!!!
*The musculoskeletal system is easily overtrained when you are deconditioned, leading to an increase in injury rates!!

NASM follows the OPT model: Optimum Perfomance training, which has 5 phases:
1. Stabilization
2. Strength endurance
3. Hypertrophy
4. Max strength
5. Power

Did you know that if you perform an exercise in a controlled, yet unstable environment-your body must recruit more muscles, which equals more calories burned!!

Personal Training Advancements

So i have been working with a trainer for about 2 months now and she is totally kickin my rear but I love it!! I improved on 2 very noticable things!! My planks are getting much better...a month ago I could barely do a side plank and now I can almost hold it 30 seconds!! Also, I have been able to decrease the weight on the assisted pull up for the first time in 3 years!!! GO ME!!!

Signing off for now, got to figure out some photo stuff!!

In the beginning..

HOWDY!! Welcome to my journey :) This year is my year for change and a new direction! We are moving to Colorado next month and I have decided I am ready to take a new path, a new adventure. I have been wanting for a long long time to get my personal trainers certification and open my own gym of some sort. Now is the perfect time!! So this blog will start out following my journey to getting my body and soul in shape as well as my journey into getting my certification. I have 120 days to study and take my test, but I would like to take it before April 1, 2010!!

I am also going to be getting a group fitness certification and a ZUMBA certification!!! Yip Yip!! I have a ton of ideas floating around in this brain of mine so hopefully they come to life soon!!!

Eventually, I would like to turn this blog into something for my studio, once it is up and running!!

So, I hope you enjoy my journey with me! And words of advice and encouragement are ALWAYS welcome!!
